Job Description:
The Lead Radar Image Science Engineer provides Subject Matter Expertise (SME) for online end-to-end SAR image formation and advanced radar algorithm development.
Primary responsibility is to architect a tactical UAV R&D AI/ML framework for an evolving threat environment with extensibility to emerging DoD remote sensing systems.
Proficiency with radar target scattering phenomenology is required.
Familiarity with other modalities such as Electro-Optical (EO), Overhead Persistent Infra-Red (OPIR), Full Motion Video (FMV), Wide Area Motion Imagery (WAMI), Ground Moving Target Indicator (GMTI), and Interferometric SAR applications is a plus.
Image Scientist responsibilities include SME image science and radar support for the software development of analytical processes and tools associated with Image Quality (IQ) assessment of collection and processing for dissemination, archival, exploitation and display of digital imagery.
Essential Functions:
On-Site lead radar engineer will provide guidance to a multidisciplinary team of 10 engineers Architect the SAR component of a Research and Development AI/ML framework to include data collection capabilities, data labeling processes, algorithm training processes, and test & evaluation Radar image science SME for product quality (PQ) analysis throughout TCPED chain.
Perform system trade studies assessing impacts of SAR data processing routines and advanced algorithms operating on todays baseline and emerging remote sensing systems.
Investigate, analyze and provide solutions to complex problems encountered by engineering services and quality control using standard engineering practices.
Authors technical documents and deliver presentations Design and lead studies / analysis and support tool improvement efforts Develop engineering-level (not production-level) software code
Qualifications:
Active DoD TS or TS/SCI security clearance Bachelors Degree and minimum 9 years of prior relevant experience, or a Graduate Degree and a minimum of 7 years of prior related experience.
The degree must be in Imaging Science, Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent.
Demonstrated expertise in digital signal processing (DSP) applied to algorithm development and analysis of radar applications for SAR image formation, antenna beam forming, clutter signal nulling, angle estimation (eg MUSIC), range doppler target estimation, and space-time adaptive processing.
Experience with Radar systems in areas such like signal analysis, geolocation & mensuration, data modeling, product quality assessments & artifact identification, and other special / novel phenomena.
Demonstrated expertise in statistics, stochastic processing & probability theory.
Experience supporting demonstrations and verification & validation activities to support the training of AI/ML algorithms to extract actionable intelligence Preferred Additional Skills:
Five or more years of experience working directly with customer remote sensing data and processing techniques Exposure to analysis, exploitation, advanced processing of a wide variety of discipline areas such as Electro-Optical (EO), Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR), Overhead Persistent Infra-Red (OPIR), Ground Moving Target Indicator (GMTI), Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning (AI/ML), Space and Airborne ISR, etc.
Experience with object tracking techniques like Kalman filtering, multi-hypothesis, and particle filtering Exposure to astrodynamics and orbital mechanics tools such as STK, NASA GMAT, Orekit, TASAT, ODTK, Free Flyer, SGP4 and other propagator code libraries Experience with orbit analysis and prediction, transfer orbits, plane changes, and orbit maneuvers Experience with orbit determination, conjunction assessment, and trajectory analysis (ie working with two-line element sets) Remote Sensing experience, including image formation, pixel processing, point spread function (PSF) analysis, optical MTF, point source photometry, radiometry, sensor calibration, etc.
Vast experience with image data processing throughout entire lifecycle from data acquisition through exploitation Knowledge of ground processing architectures and image processing algorithms for remote sensing systems, and transitioning R&D algorithms and processes into operations Expertise conducting engineering analyses to resolve system deficiencies and optimize performance in coordination with partners and end-users Machine learning experience, including Convolutional Neural Networks, Recurrent Neural Networks, Parameter optimization, etc.

Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
