The Prince George's County Government Department of Health is seeking qualified applicants to fill a Mail Services Operator 2A position, grade A12, within its General Services/OOA Division.
About the Position:
This is full performance level routine work in the daily performance of general mail, courier and mailroom activities, which includes the sorting and posting of mail, the operation and maintenance of mail processing equipment, and picking up and delivering mail on a scheduled and predetermined basis.
Incumbents perform the full range of duties and responsibilities characteristic of the II level.
Work assignments are performed under general supervision in accordance with established sectional/divisional policies and procedures.
Examples of Work What You'll Do:
Collects, verifies and loads, by pre-arranged stops, supplies, materials, and mail that may include correspondence, U.
S.
Mail, packages, fee bags, medical supplies, vaccines, office supplies and special delivery items.
Delivers above listed items to various clinic sites, County and State Offices and other locations.
Utilizes and maintains a delivery receipt system for special delivery items such as payroll checks, fee bags, confidential correspondence and other items required recipient signature Take care of general maintenance of assigned vehicle to include washing, waxing, and adding oil and tire rotation.
Charts and diagrams are accurate and provided in a timely manner.
Reports any accident in writing.
Transports vehicle to County Garage for preventative maintenance care.
Knowledgeable in Mail Center Operation; has ability to sort mail by agency location.
Assists when needed in metering outgoing mail and inter-office distribution of mail.
Assists with stamping in mail received in the Health Department.
Assists when needed in filling supply requisitions and delivery items to in-house requestors.
Helps out on scheduled physical inventories.
Logs items received in the mailroom on a spreadsheet to track the physical inventory Performs the full range of duties and responsibilities associated with this class.
Delivers and picks up mail on a daily basis to and from the United States Post Office.
Sorts postal and inter-office mail by department/agency.
Operates and maintains County vehicles and mail processing equipment (e.
g.
, postage scale, postage machine/meter, mailing machine) in accordance with established policies and procedures.
Makes courier runs throughout County government locations in order to deliver, sort and pick up mail.
Maintains appropriate log of metered postage by department/agency.
Operates computerized mail processing equipment in conjunction with assigned duties and responsibilities.
Willingly and cooperatively performs tasks and duties which may not be specifically listed in the class specification or position description, but which are within the general occupational category and responsibility level typically associated with the employee's class of work.

Qualifications:
Graduation from high school or equivalent with six (6) months mail services experience or equivalent combination of experience and training.
Additional Information CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Upon selection, the candidate must:
Possess a valid driver's license which is required upon selection Be in good physical condition Meet all training and performance standards and demonstrate proficiency as required by the agency.
Wear and use agency protective apparel and equipment in the performance of their assigned duties.
Participate as an Essential employee in the department's snow and ice control program and other emergency or special activities as assigned.
DURATION OF ELIGIBILITY:
Candidates will be selected from a temporary register of eligible candidates, which will become effective approximately four (4) weeks after the closing date.
Once a selection has been made, the register will expire.
